Welcome Sliney Families to the 2021 – 2022 School Year!
Dear Sliney Families and Staff,
On behalf of the Sliney PTA, I would like to welcome you to the 2021/2022 school year! For those new to Sliney, my name is Ashley Murphy and I have the honor of being your PTA President again this year. This will be my 9th school year at Sliney, I have two children attending Sliney that are in the 3rd and 4th grade and two children at Walsh. As President, I look forward to continuing the relationships the PTA has established with families, our Principal Dr, Clark, and our incredible teachers and staff.
This year I am joined by a wonderful executive board. Jeremy Pastore has joined as Vice President. Jeremy is a Paraprofessional at Sliney who has always been willing to help our PTA in anyway possible. Nicole Cudgma is a returning board member and 1st grade parent who is now our Treasurer. And lastly Alana Abbott is our Secretary who currently has a 1st grader at Sliney and has a history of chairing the Art show among other things at Sliney.
This will be another historic year for us all. We will still be dealing with unknowns, restrictions and trying to find our new normals yet again. Everything will be different and uncertain during these times of COVID-19, but we at the JBS PTA want to continue to build our community and come together as we normally would have. They say a smile can speak a thousand words and break the ice so to speak, for both children and adults meeting after a long summer or for the first time. Those smiles are hard to see right now, but know there are very friendly and welcoming people in our JBS community who are willing to answer your questions, lend a hand, or just be a friend.
The mission of the JBS PTA this year is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families. We advocate for all children. Together at Sliney, we support this mission through family events and giving direct help to our teachers and staff as well as our families in need. The easiest and best way to support the Sliney PTA is by becoming a member. Nothing is required of you once you join the PTA, you can be involved as much or as little that works for you and your family. But by joining you are a part of the largest child advocacy program in the world and are able to vote on how funds are spent, PTA officers and most PTA related decisions that benefit your student.
Going into this year, I am not sure how things will look for the Sliney PTA and the normal activities that we have done in the past. We are hopeful that we can get back to some of our family oriented events with modifications for everyone’s health and safety. We will be holding multiple fundraisers to hep make up for what we cannot have and we hope that you will consider participating. Every dollar the PTA raises goes back to the school or community in some way whether it is Teacher Appreciation, Student Trips, Cultural Arts, After school Programs or celebrating our outgoing fourth graders. To learn all that we do and support, please consider joining at us one of our meetings throughout the year, everyone is welcome regardless of PTA membership.
Please know that the Sliney PTA is always working with the school and district to help foster a safe and engaging year of learning, growing and memories for our children and are constantly trying to think of ways to bring everyone back together safely. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you may have or just to say hi, I would love to hear from you! I encourage you to follow our Facebook page, Sliney PTA, for the most up to date information on membership and all things Sliney related. Sliney is a special place. We are backed by a remarkable community and staff whose contributions only enhance and reinforce this relationship. Thank you for helping to make every students potential a reality. Let’s have a wonderful year!
All My Best,
JBS PTA President
